Yeaaaaah, this isn't going well. Or maybe it is! I honestly don't know. Either way it's not good enough to go on the bike.

Maybe this is totally normal, maybe my gun sucks, maybe I suck. I'm not sure.

Shot these an hour ago, powder 365 black magic.. These are 4 different pieces, all turned out the same. I shot some real light (can see the metal underneath), and some as heavy as I could. Can't really see much difference in any of them.

I guess they look good from a distance, I just thought this would lay smoother. Maybe I'm wrong? I don't really know.

This one is eastwood mirror black.

This is an eastwood mirror black, and a p365 satin black.

And here's one of the hoppers I made.

Any suggestions?

What temp are you curing?
Are you letting the part get to temp before you start the timer?

I quit using the Black Magic years ago and switched to the Tuscan Black Matte. It flows out a bunch smoother and doesn't have the brownish tint in reflection that the BM has.

absolutely.

I've picked up a new gun, which is worlds better.

I may try the tuscan matte black... i like the sheen that the black magic has though.

The satin black is giving me fits at this point, I cannot get that to lay smoothly no matter what i do. I'll try and post some pics later.

That's the flat/matte that I use.
I love it, cures nicely.

Edit: Just saw that Marc uses it too. It's good stuff.

What do you guys use for something like a satin?

I got a pound of the satin black from p365, but I don't like it much. No matter what I do, it has quite a bit of peel. Either I shoot it so light you can see through it, or anything more than that has peel. Plus it just sorta looks.. Faded.

I think I spoiled myself with the sherwin williams mirror black 2... I pretty much have to try and make that look bad.
