Powdercoating edges?

Can powder be done over bare metal and left with an exposed edge?

I would like to have the outboard surfaces of my hubs powdercoated with the inner portion polished. Would I need to do a clear over the whole thing to keep it from flaking away at the edge of the powder/polished?

You can do whatever you want with powder that you would do with paint, and it will stick BETTER.
I would suggest, however, that you do clear powder on the inside of the hub, as that area is really hard to keep polished.

You'll lose about 15-20% of the shine of the polished hub if you clearcoat it but you will not have to polish ever again. Slight trade off but livable in most cases.

Agreed.
I accept the slight reduction in luster because most people would rather ride than polish.

Thanks for the expert advice.

I'll probably do the whole hub polished or clear over polished now that I think about it...

here are some samples of wheels we have coated, polished, and cleared the whole thing...

another option is to coat and machine the sections you want... that is like we did on these
