I am planning on using the appliance epoxy paint on my frame and wheels. My bike is over 30 years old so the frame has some rust on it. I know the epoxy paint works better w/o primer, but will it be ok if I use some rust converter on the areas that need it? My other option would be to just wire wheel as much rust away I can then sand and shoot the paint the way it is. I know the brand is Rustoleum but I don't know if that means it will encapsulate and stick to any residual rust.
wire wheel it... get a "fine" wire wheel and hit any rust spots with it... hell i would hit as much of the frame as you can with it... you are going to want to at least get a scuff pad and hit the whole frame... then spary it down with some PREP.... wipe it down... shoot away!
I'm worried about the bits of rust in cracks and places I can't get the wire brush into. Will the appliance paint stick over that crap? The entire frame will be sanded to smooth out the transitions between metal and factory paint. I'm beginning to wish I had splurged on sandblasting and powdercoat, wire wheeling a frame sucks.

they make like 5 diff styles of wire wheels, one of them will get in there no problme... but i have never had trouble in the past... i shot my bike trailers wheels with the epoxy without ANY prep... they look like brand new!
