Problems with an SR250 fork disassembly - Help please

Hi everybody,

Trying to dissemble my forks and I have managed to get the top nut out, the spring is out and the oil drained (which looks like the original 20 year old stuff)

The problem I am having is that on both legs the lower bolt just keeps spinning with the damper rod (or at least I think that's what its called). Having looked down the fork tubes whilst turning the lower bolt I can see the insides of the tube spinning.

So the question is how on earth do I get the bolt loose? I can't see anyway of locking the inner tube/damper rod so I have something to turn against

You need about 3 feet of extensions. Literally. You need to get right down to the bottom from inside the tube. I forget if it's 10mm, 13mm or the socket head. But you need lots of extensions.

Cheers cosworth, I have just managed to get one out by re-fitting the spring and the top cap, that seems to put enough pressure on to hold it.

The other one is not being so helpful, I have just read that an impact wrench might help, whilst compressing the fork leg.

I'll try the long extension method as well, although I can't see any bolts or hex heads inside.

May be bad info, but at times you can use an impact to get the bolt out workout using a 3ft extention. Spins the nut out without spinning the damper.
