Project Chubby Betty - Custom Caféracer

Haha... It's magical alright!

Everything that roles in there, immediately falls into 500 pieces...?

Man, that sounds familiar. Must be the Harbor Freight curse.

I thought that was something of a rule in a garage?

Iv'e tried a 100 times to drive a "stock" bike, fails every time :-X
What's the fun in that?

Short update:

Been working in PS with some paint-schemes.
The first suggestion is with carbon fibre covered tanksides and ghost-grey checkers on top.
The second is with gold-candy checkers.

Which one is the best?

I also think the front fender looks to "fat", and needs to be modified.
I slaughtered the original R1-fender yesterday and did a mockup with cardboard.
The cardboard represents shields for the front legs.
What ya think?

I like the stock fender on there. looks very racey... if anything i would cut out a section in the middle so you can see the tire. that would be different... i like the last checkerboard, but have to be honest i think some hot rod style scalops would look so much better than the checkers

The fender is already in a thousand peaces ;D

Will post a pic shortly.

Haven't thought of scalops, give me a couple of days and I'll se what i can come up with.

Did some more chopping of the fender today.

Don't know if I'm happy with the result though :-\

What ya think?

that is ok... not sure i am felling it... needs more of a wrap to go with the layout of the bike and front end

I'm following.

Something like this then?

I can make a mold directly on the tire with some ducktape wrapped around it.
That will give me a nice smoth fit to the tire.

Short uppdate on the project:

- New R1 front fender
- Carbon fibre jobs continues

Your not going to have to hack that one up are you? I hope it fits as is, not doubting your skill, but every patch job I have ever seen on CF looked like an asshole sewn up with a strand of barbed wire!

No worries, Iv'e hade training ;)
The fender will be left as is. no more cutting.

Working with CF is all about patience, and time.

I have to say that what you are doing with this bike is way way way outside of what I thought was capable for a bike like you have! You have without a doubt transformed it into something with a considerably higher amount of performance handling. It does not look very comfortable to ride, but with that very low center of gravity, I bet it is fun to ride. I am sure you can really rip on her with no worries of the front pulling up when you don't want it to like on the high powered sport bikes. I think what you have is very unique and cool! Way to be different! Great work too!

This is definately something special...I always wondered what a cafe'd '81 Virago would lean toward..this is it...mucho cool....I know that the fatty rear tire goes with the "chopperesque" look, but , man, gyroscopic effect....lot to fight to change direction ;D

Cheers guys!

The goal with the project is to even out the lines between the different styles.
Café, bobber, flattrack, custom whatewa :)

The tire looks bigger than it is, it's only a 17"-190, original is 15"-170.
The handling now in contrary to the originial bike is huge.

I van't wait to test the new 6 pitson brakes ;D

Ya know, normally the "power cruiser" look doesn't do it for me but with some rework to the rearsets for a more comfortable position I think you could be on to something. I agreed, scallops in bassboat candy cold big flake with engine turned silverleaf boundary stripes would look hot on that thing!
I don't know much about that model...shaft or chain drive. What wheel did you switch to out back?

I like to keep it simple.
Flake paintjob is to 70's for me.

The rims is from a 02:s Yamaha Bulldog :)
The riding position fits perfect for me.
The bike will run a dragstrips this summer so front mounted controls is not to think of.
