Project flat track on the street...

Been Around the Block
Finally came to the conclusion it wasn't some show bike street/tracker, it was my 500 flat tracker I'd build if I was racing, much like the old Sherpa S in 73. No worries about perfection in finish or making the simplest part some machining trick or CNC issue. The hammer marks stay in the seat/number plate supports and the frame only has grinding on bracket removal and sharp spots on welds. Only filling will be to take care of open ends or holes that need it.

Here's the transition:

Original old Brit look inspired by David Edwards' Gold Star. A friend and I built the high pipe from JC Whitney mandrel bent tubing:

First evolution of transition to street/tracker at a time when not only was there a small short track to play on locally, but the guys play on the ice every winter too, so it was more about track than street. The tail was more Honda RS750 look using a CB750F tail (seat will bolt on any SR500 and will be appearing on ebay soon, I know I'll not use it again):

Too many years (12) shuffling from garage to garage and too many years from having it actually run (8 years, 5 minutes) after reassembly to previous picture's state, I got tired of seeing all the street/trackers with the ubiquitous tail section (usually XR style)so it was time for redirection. I liked the early flat trackers and decided that was the way to go. Some fabrication and parts and about 6 nights/early mornings during the Holiday break (a teacher) and here's the rough set up:

It's in pieces to get the frame painted silver - all reall flat tracers have silver frames, Bultaco fans know what I mean. The seat will be upholstered, by me hopefully, with distressed/weathered leather or vinyl. If leather, it will be the old jacket I wore when racing short track in 73-74 on the Sherpa S. The tank is looking good in red primer, so I'm working on some paint tricks that will be appropriate for the bike.

The fact is it will slide around some pea gravel and limestone corners on some roads we found while dual sporting and it is entirely possible it could end up on ice and on a track if some play days ever come available .

Hope you enjoy the pictures.
