Quick carbs question (CB550)

I've taken the carbs apart on my cb550, and cleaned them, and I just want to know what to do with the cylinders, do I just coat them in WD40 or something else? And, I'm not sure if they were cracked already or it was afer boiling them, but one of my floats is a bit cracked, can that affect anything, or should it be fine??

The slides should be fine as they are, but WD-40 won't hurt anything. Gasoline lubes them up once they're in operation.

As for the floats, the answer depends. If your floats are hollow then, yes. Your carb will be non-working with a crack in the floats. If they're solid foam or something like that then it's no big deal.

What year? Either way, they're hollow, so I would scour ebay and find a replacement.

It's a '74, doesn't look hollow, but I'll take another closer look, yeah and may do ebay just to be safe.

What do you mean by "it was after boiling them"? Why on earth would you ever boil a carburetor part and just what were you boiling them in? Also, take that can of WD-40 and toss it in the garbage. The stuff has no good use what so ever on a motorcycle, automobile, boat, plane, or pair of roller-skates; it is about the most overused and worthless garbage on the face of the earth.

I can't remember where exactly, but we had a thread on boiling them in lemon juice, it really works, but you can't boil some parts for too long. WD40? You can't just say stuff like that without giving an alternative, and a reason why it's garbage!?
