I'm looking to chop up the stock exhaust on my 77 kz650 (4 into 2). the OD on the headers measures at 1.5". i have plans to replace the mufflers with the cone engineering reverse cone mufflers. the pipe diameter increases as it gets closer to the mufflers, so would i just order a muffler with a 1.5" ID as i would chop it prior to the mufflers? and is welding the only way to go or would using an exhaust clamp seal the deal?
Too funny, I just ordered some used Yoshi mufflers on eBay and am going to do the same on my kz750. I've used muffler clamps and had no issues as long as they are sealed properly. I plan on welding mine on and wrap the exhaust in heat wrap to hide my sub par welding skills
i have exhaust wrap on the way to cover up any flaws as well ;D ;D
i just have a feeling this header to muffler matchup isn't as simple as it sounds. i'll end up with pieces that require more fab work just because i didn't order the correct diamter muffler.
Hopefully these show as I'm posting from my phone. I left about 2" of muffler on the header, then pressed the yoshi pipes into that remaining section. Welded and heat wrapped! Worked like a charm, and took about 2 hrs to do.
