Quick Test for Air Leak

Any body got a quick test for an air leak. The Kwaka is popping on decel like it may have an intake air leak.Tried the WD-40 around the intakes but saw no evidence of a leak. Full electronic ignition so I know its not timing and carbs have been rejetted 0ne up to match the Vance and Hines exhaust.Anyone?Thanks.bj

I don't know what bike you have, but there could be a leak where the header enters the head.

Any mods to the vent system?

I don't think WD-40 is good enough. Try brake or carb cleaner. Or, get some ether at a parts store to spray around. Use enough- a brief >poof< probably isn't enough.

Thanks. Bike is KZ 1000, with 32 mm Mikunis and a Vance and Hines exhaust with full electronic ignition. Will try the ether. Thanks again.bj

only thing that remedied the popping on my dads shadow was changing the timing... not sure if its similar at all on the kz...

isnt popping caused by extra fuel mixture in the exhaust getting burnt once it hits the hot header and ignites?

With a less restrictive exhaust/intake, popping on deceleration is usually remedied by increasing the idle jet size or adjusting mixture mixture richer. Idle jets usually get overlooked when jetting up for a pipe.

You can use some carb cleaner to check for intake leaks. That's how I found that the intake plate on my 72 PU was leaking.

Thanks for the input guys,I will give all the suggestions a look see.Bike has been dyno tuned and jetting seemed spot on.The Mikunis are slide valve with a one wire 1/4 turn throttle so I dont think they are getting much gas into the exhausts -usually that results in flame at nite on decel and I havent seen that. My suspicion absent a n air leak is that it may be the idle jets cause we didnt touch them other than to clean 20 years worth of crud off them and reinstall.Thanks again for all ur time and input.BJ
