Re-anodizing Forks

Been Around the Block
Having purchased a set of GSXR USD forks, I'd like to have them black, currently they are light gold in colour with a few scratch marks and a couple more serious marks on them.

Does anyone know if I need to strip back the orginal anodized finish before having them re-anodized as I'm thinking of using a DIY kit. I know that the anodizing is basically 'corrosion' that is only a few microns thick, but would I need to have this removed before re-anodizing and if so what would be the best way to do this, I'm thinking the best way would be to have the tubes turned down by a few microns on a lathe?

Any idea of thoughts on the best way forward?

you can powder them we have done a bunch of these... just did a set last week actually off a M109, same basic front end
