Re-post kick start wont engage the motor cl350

i posted this elsewhere, i'm moving it here, seems more appropriate.

so i tore down the lower on the motor and after cleaning, and reassembly, the kickstart wont engage the motor (push the pistons), and the motor is off the bike. i can turn the pistons with generator (left side). the left side clutch cover is off so the clutch is not to tight or engages. Sorry if my description is off a bit, but thats the basics of the problem. Oh and when the kicker is being kickes, it moves the clutch basket ect. It is in neutral also. when it is in gear, the front gear moves too.

You have to reassemble the clutch first. If the kicker is turning the clutch basket, would be turning the crank shaft also. Since your clutch is not assembled, it can't.

If the kick starter is turning the clutch basket, that means that it is engaging like it should. The kick starter engages with the main transmission shaft, which turns the center of the clutch. If the clutch is together and engaged, it will spin the outside of the clutch basket. The back of the basket has a double gear that engages with the smaller ones on the crankshaft under the oil filter drum.

So what's spinning, and what's not?

everything is spinning, but the pistons are not moving. Its acting as if the clutch lever is engaged and your trying to kick. i will take video of it and post it. I really appreciate the quick responses.

Clutch engaged or not shouldn't matter, the motor should turn over. Somethings not meshing.

On the 350, the kickstarter engages on the transmission side, so if you have the clutch disengaged, it will turn the transmission, but not the crank shaft.

My bad, never seen one like that. So the only way to start it is clutch out, in neutral? Seems like a pain if you stall it in a busy intersection.

So if I have the left side cover off it should engage the motor, and it's not. I'm not that new to this motor that's why im puzzled. I have to get a new left side cover, so I'll order that and put it on ect and see what happens.

Put a cover on, adjust slack ect, still no go. What could have gone wrong when re-installing the gears? I only tore down the bottom, didn't even touch the cam or anything up top? Again, when I spin the ac generator the pistons move, when in gear and move the kicker it spins the front cog and that's it, when in neutral it spins the trans only. I getting irritated. Gonna open it back up.

The side covers will have nothing to do with the kick starter not working. Take the clutch side cover off so you can see what's going on.

Ok got the clutch cover off again and kicked it. The clutch move but the gears don't, the start to but stop, they move with the generator so the problem is the kick starter?

Update: pulled the lower off again, I placed all the gears in the lower and the contacted the kick start gear. when the gears were spun by hand they would only spin 3/4 or so before wanting to push the other set up and out. The gears with the single shift fork were the ones causing the binding and when moved ever so slightly, it would stop. I moved the shift fork to match and the all spun free.
Now, the kick start wont budge an inch.

It does. I did just that yesterday when I accidentally hit my VERY sensitive kill switch leaving the intersection on a green light. Felt a fool ::)

Hey everyone. Has this issue been figured out or resolved? I'm have the same issue with the kick starter. It started out with spinning the clutch basket but not engaging the engine and now the kick starter won't move at all if the pressure plates and friction plates are installed. I've taken the clutch, part put it backed together. Tried adjusting the clutch. I'm lost...

Put the bike in gear, kill switch off, ignition off. On the center stand, work the kick starter. If the rear wheel turns, the problem is not the kick start, it is the clutch.

The kick starter turns the input shaft of the transmission. The clutch plates are connected to the input shaft. The kick start turns the shaft, which turns the plates, which turns the basket, which is connected to the crankshaft. If the clutch is slipping or disengaged, you won't turn the engine. If the clutch is engaged and you can't turn the engine, then the engine is locked up or the primary gear has an issue.

Thanks for your help! This Forum is a lifesaver. I'm new to 70's Hondas and carbureted motorcycles. Thanks to all this wonderful knowledge there's less of a learning curve. By the way I'm Danny, its nice to meet everyone.
