Thanks mate! Here is a picture of what it originally looked like in Red. That is not mine though, I pirated it from the web.

That is me in my avatar on my uncles CL72. My Dad had the same bike at the time too. He and my uncle both would take me riding on them. I was stuck riding stingrays by myself at that time.

Nice to see another SL350, I'm almost finished my 69. I'm going to use it as a dualie/adventure bike. Hoping to do short tours on it.

Yeah DrJ I've always loved the SL's. Should work great for you. I'll be able to mount dual sport tires on this one too if I want to do some trailing. Thinking maybe a set of high pipes like the ones on the CL in my avatar.

That would make a sweet Tracker or a cafe. What do you plan on doing with?

Cool build thread so far Cyclhed. Lots of photos to start with. you're on the right path already :D
I'm going to be bugging you with all kinds of questions by the time I get to work on my son's SL350 again. I hope to get to his by the summers end.

Planning a vintage supermoto type deal - you know dirt bike with sticky street tires on wider wheels and street gearing. Something along the lines of the bike pictured below which I found in xulf13's SL350 thread.

Thanks xulf13. I like to see and post lots of pics in my threads because a picture speaks a thousand words and I don't type very fast! I'll be happy to help. The engine is the same as the CB/CL 350 engines just without the electric start. The engine was all good inside when I pulled it apart for inspection and to bead blast the top. The clock only shows 5k miles. It was covered with corrosion so it had to be done. It came clean nicely today, but my eyes and ears and nose are full of sand now. I just need a gasket set and I'll lightly hone the bores and lap the valves and it will be good to go. These has a slightly different cam timing for the intakes I think that gave them a bit more torque than the CB/CL's. Some guys use the SL cam in their CB's.

Your plans sound cool, I'll stay tuned, keep vintage alive. ;D
I would do exactly what you're thinking about doing if I had a style bike.

Re: SL-350 super motorsport project

I've always like the SL frame. BTW the first SL350 in 69 did not come with this frame, it had a regular stamped backbone CB frame with a tail loop and a sheet steel rear subfender, quite heavy. Afterwards, the SLs were built with all steel tubes that looked much better and lighter.

Very nice build. I have about 90% of a 1972 SL350. All the major stuff. I'm thinking a vintage Rickman look since I can't afford a real Rickman. LOL!
