REAL racing!.....2012 TT coverage up!

Re: REAL racing!

Oooooh yeah! A lot of people consider it madness. I call it living life to the fullest. If that doesn't give you wood you better check your pulse. You're probably dead.

Re: REAL racing!

This one's pretty mad as well:

Re: REAL racing!

That's pretty damned fast but, Nürburgring is a modern purpose-built course with lots of grassy run off areas. It doesn't seem nearly as hair-raising as the Isle of Man with buildings and stone walls, lining the course. You can also see pretty far ahead on Nürburgring what's coming up. The TT course has lots of blind corners and you really need to know the course to know what's ahead.

Great video though! Thanks Hillsy!

Re: REAL racing!

Great videos. This is one of my favorites. A very fast lap with Ian Hutchinson

Re: REAL racing!

Superb! ... hate the music though :-\

Here is Ian having some fun with the local wildlife on the course.

Re: REAL racing!

The music sucks. Its hard to believe that some dipshit can believe there can be better music than an exhaust.

Obviously Ian has never see "The Birds".

Re: REAL racing!

Nothing compares to the Isle of Man guys....

A number of the top men can lap at average speeds in excess of 130 mph, and will average over 125 mph accross a 6 lap race. (over 220 miles.) 2 pits stops included.
To appreciate this feat, try and average 125 mph on a motorway/highway for 220 miles.

I have driven to the South of France many times over the years, usually steadily and economically. But in 95 I did the 803 mile journey in a 300SL Mercedes. My dad said he had never done it in under 12 hours.......stopping for fuel only, I drove at 125-140 mph the whole way...as there were no cameras back then. It took me 9 1/4 hours, and my dad didn't believe I had done it.
Average speed............87mph.

No argument there - but there's actually a lot of armco when you look a bit closer at that video of Nurburgring. Built for cars.

Speaking of armco - have a look at the superbike races at Macau. Even the IoM guys reckon that course is too dangerous

Re: REAL racing!

The top men at the Macau GP are pretty much the same men that dominate the IOM TT.

I've been going to the TT since 1987, and I think everyone should have the chance to witness the spectacle. I used to love the short circuit racing, and was a regular visitor to Brands Hatch as it's only a one hour ride away. However, going to the Island has spoiled me......as I no longer spectate from behind a mesh fence 75 yards, or sometimes further from the action, but now I can literally put my hand out and touch bikes passing me at 180 mph or more. If a newbie comes with us, we usually head for a spot on the road side just after the village of Crosby, where the bikes pass you flat out over the brow of a hill. Sometimes leaving the road completely for 50 yards, or pulling monster wheelies as they pass us. The look on the newbies faces when the first bike comes past says it all !
Part of the magic for me, is that the race takes place on a road, a road that I can ride on when there is no racing, so it's possible to appreciate fully exactly what the racers are achieving, and just how bloody good they are !

Re: REAL racing!

Hoof - thanks for the Ian Hutchinson video, it gives some idea of just how amazing these riders are!

Crazy

Re: REAL racing!

When I first watched that video I took a deep breath when he dropped down Bray Hill and I don't think I exhaled until Parliament Square! Totally amazing!

Re: REAL racing!

Just a quick note for everybody...Today's races got cancelled and moved to tomorrow. The Pokerstars senior TT will be tomorrow (Saturday) at 1:30 Dublin time. You can stream Manx Radio and hear it live!

Re: REAL racing!

Further up-date.
What a disaster ! I just heard from my mate who is on the Island at the moment, and the Senior is cancelled today too.......which means the race will not happen at all this year. The roads are closed at Billown tomorrow, in the south of the island, for the Steam Packet races, and the authorities will not close the TT course as well....even though the two courses are 10 miles apart. They are hoping to run the lightweight TT about now, 6pm GMT, but if it doesn't go this evening that wont happen this year either.

Arse !

Re: REAL racing!

That sucks. But with the speeds of today's bikes I can't blame them. Lets hope the lightweight runs and its good for Billown tomorrow.
