Reliable Honest Vintage Shops in Portland?

Hey guys,

I am looking for a good reliable shop that specializes in vintage or is capable of working on our vintage bikes preferably in the SE area. Also, for better info, my bike isn't a CB, I have a 74' Yamaha RD250 2 stroke cafe, and my turn signals aren't working and I'm not very knowledgeable with electrical. I think it's an easy fix but I want someone who knows their stuff, haha. Anyways, any help is greatly appreciated, here's a pic of the bike -

Before you spend the labor, try a flasher relay. They're only a few bucks. I'm in Vancouver and would be more than willing to help.

A few questions....

Were they ever working?
Were any signals recently replaced?
What have you tried thus far ?
Do they light up at all?

Edit: By the way, Sweet RD.

Also, if worse comes to worse, check out

Doc Brown's - He's a grumpy old man but knows his stuff

Doomtown Motorworks - This guy has another full time job, but has an actual shop and knows his stuff. Not sure if he works on 2 strokes, but he could probably refer you to someone if needed.

Bulbs are another cheap and thing to check and they can usually be visually inspected, once removed.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the help and info! A little more background... I can't confirm that the turns worked prior to me buying it (this is my first bike and I didn't think to check the turns at the time, everything else works though). We installed the aftermarket turns you see there pretty much right away, and I did upgrade the relay to a digital one that will register the lower voltage of them. I thought that would do the trick, but they still don't operate. When replacing the turns, all we did was hook up the new ones to their corresponding connectors, and then installed the relay as well. I don't get anything, the lights don't blink or stay on, and the dash indicators don't do anything. Also I checked one of the bulbs and it wasn't burnt out. Everything else electrical works on the bike... I just have no know-how about electrical and what to do and where to start. I appreciate it a lot guys, thanks

Oh... also... if you don't have a multimeter, go get one. They're usually $20 or less for one with modest functionality.

That's a great idea. I was just thinking it was a bummer we didn't know if they worked before.

And pick up a manual. My 360 signals didn't work, and it turned out the PO replaced one of them using the wrong wiring diagram. It screwed everything up. Once I saw what he had done it was like, "Oh, I get it." and it worked.

You mentioned getting a lower voltage flasher. Does that mean the signals are LED?

Yeah, I'm going to do that here, and also buy a multimeter, I just wanted to have a good shop contact in case I get nowhere with it. Sounds like Doc Brown's is a great place to go if I need it. I appreciate it guys, I'll get back to you after doing some more trouble shooting

Fixed the problem, turned out to be very simple, one of the wires in the switch had it's solder pop off, so we re-soldered it and now I have working turns! Thanks guys for the input I appreciate it

This is a little late but thanks! It's been running like a champ and I just got done chopping a front fender to throw on just need to throw some paint on it.

Very cool man. We've developed a pretty good group here in the Portland area. Keep an eye out here for group rides. They'll increase as the weather improves.
