Hello all, Finally starting a build thread for my first build.
Ive had 2 bikes in the past but i never worked on them at all.
I bought this bike in September. Looking back i have learned that I made a lot of First time builder mistakes.

First: I bought a non running bike. (the price was right so i couldnt turn it down) PO said: "It doesnt have spark, i had it running earlier this year, it shouldnt take much I just dont have time to work on it"

Second: i started tearing it apart before getting it running. I know... hind sight... Anyway, I told my self I wasnt going to mess with anything engine related, purely cosmetic. But it didnt have an air filter in the cage so i though, "what would be the harm of taking it out anyway?"

Well, there was probably more but Ill save that. So my inspiration was the holiday customs GN400 and also Chris' Here:

Anyway, here she was bone stock and ugly as sin.

I decided to try my hand at making and upholstering my own seat. Its not perfect but it turned out alright.
The pan is made out of 6mm PVC. It was trimmed out then bent using a heat gun. Here are some of the progress photos.

Here is a mock up of the new muffler (yes its held on by a length of wire) You can see how the seat fits on the bike. Like I said, not perfect but its ok for now. Its not attached yet, but this is about where she stands right now.

Right now all of the wiring is torn out of the bike except for what it needs to run. I got the spark issue figured down to the dreaded CDI. However I have a somewhat functioning stock CDI that I am using for the time being works, sort of... After 3 months of putsing and frustration I got it started and it idles pretty nice, I even took it for a little (very little) ride!

So right now I am working with some great people on the GN400 yahoo group. im getting some pretty great info on alternative CDI options, but im having some wiring issues.
I will be putting the new muffler on and mess around getting it running with that, and then the wiring fun begins and refinishing the frame, new chain/sprockets so on so on.. So I thought get some pictures and videos up to show my progress thus far.

you haven't got enough clearance to the tire

Naw, its good, the springs are really stiff. i stood on the bike and jumped up and down and they weren't budging much (i weight 150 lbs) These are about an inch longer than the stock springs.

Thanks, i seem to get more compliments on that tire than the bike itself ;) Its a Firestone ANS 5.00

i will most likely be getting a matching front come summer.

A little update, a couple videos for you. first start up and first mini ride.

no muffler on these videos. still having CDI issues, but i can get to run when i need to with a little help from a heat gun to the cdi... Im hoping come warmer weather, the issue may solve itself, but im not holding my breath.

I have a GN400 as well and have heard of using the ch250 scooter cdi and coil. I haven't tried it out yet but when I get to that project I will do that rather than buy a used one.
Build looks great BTW.
