RodeKilt Rejuvination

This has been on the back burner. The DMV notified me that the 73 frame had an existing title. The guy I bought the frame from had owned it nearly 20 years and didn't have the title. The guy he bought it from had owned it for 5 or 6 years before selling it to my friend. He also had never had the title. I can only guess someone is using the title probably on a chopper project. It was not an expensive lesson, but sure delayed any progress. Fortunately I chose to stop all work until I had a title in hand.
 
Good luck ironing out the title. I was able to obtain a new title for an RD400c that I purchased with a notarized BOS in Ohio and brought home to TN. Sheriff's Dept ran ths VIN and signed off on it. BTW, I put '78 GL1000 front on a '79 CB750F a few years ago. Handling was good, and since it was a rat bike the GL headlight ears looked fine along with 1x1/4" strap to mount the CB clocks. Original brakes and wheels bolted up as the '79F was the same, just needed a GL axle as I remember.
 
I'll find another frame pretty soon. I have everything except the calipers and master cylinder for the wing fork conversion. This is a 75 fork so pretty much a bolt in. I'll probably use ball bearings in the neck since I have 200 brand new bearings and several low mileage fork cups. I've got the stock Comstar 19" front wheel and a Comstar 18" drum brake rear for a 750. I had to go to Germany to get it! I'm knee deep in rebuilding the farm truck and building another ironhead Sportster to do much more.
 
This long neglected project took an interesting turn yesterday. I mentioned at the beginning of this thread that the engine was locked up. Over the past two years or so I've tried every trick to get it free. Nothing has helped including using a turkey roaster under the engine to warm it to 300 degrees. Yesterday I removed the alternator cover and used a pry bar in an attempt to turn the rotor. It worked! It worked very well! It worked so well that two years worth of a witch's brew came spurting out of the spark plugs holes and covered me from head to toe! My loving wife said I stunk and even my semi loving cat seemed put off by the smell. Nothing seems to be broken and maybe I'll try to start the engine.
 
I have noticed every GL1000 head stock that I remove has dented races. Roller bearings (I've always used All Balls) are cheap and easy to install on these. Gets rid of several handling issues.

The last All Balls kit I bought was pure junk. I heard they lost their main supplier during the pandemic shut down and sourced from someone else. The tapered cups didn't fit the frame and the bearings fell apart during installation. I went back to the OG ball bearings and races. My races were in excellent shape. However, if I have an issue I'll try another set of All Balls.
