Been Around the Block
Early April 2009
First official project for a friends bike. The bike is a Royal Enfield Standard, 1984 model. Was not in good condition, and the owner wanted to overhaul it completely. So we decided to make it a cafe racer!

A small list of planned parts on the bike include:
- Goldstar silencer
- Clubman Handlebar
- Rearsets
- New paint job
- Engine n chassis repaint
- gaskets change
- new nut-bolts
- single café racer seat with cowl
- new decals
- tank repairing
- new toolboxes
- new cables
- new switches
- new grips and bar-end weights
- cut short front chrome mudguard
- high security number plates
- BSA taillight
- 115 main jet
- there shall be no rear frame or mudguard (YCR style)
- other miscellaneous spares were ordered too

The bike already sports the following:
- front disc brake (new fork assembly)
- Dunlop Monster 130/80-18 Rear Tyre
- free flow silencer (which will give way to Goldstar)
- HP filter
- replaced the 4 clutch plates & casing with 5 clutch plates & casing

TODAY - 12th May, 2009
Its been around more than a month and here are the updates. The bike has been assembled. Parts completed are as follows:

- Pune Goldstar installed (Rs 1800)
- Clubman Handlebar (more tweaking left)
- Rearsets (brake side complete | gear side pending)
- New paint job (done)
- Engine n chassis repaint (done)
- gaskets change (done)
- new nut-bolts (done)
- single café racer seat with cowl (done)
- new decals (installed)
- new toolboxes (painted and installed)
- new cables (done)
- new switches (done)
- new grips and bar-end weights (embarassingly we didn't pick the grips, so had to do with the older grips until we change them)
- cut short front chrome mudguard (done and installed)
- high security number plates (done and installed)
- BSA taillight (brackets remaining)

Rearsets: Happy to announce that the rearsets are almost done!

  • The brake side works like a charm, we've used ball-bearings and its smooth.
  • The gear side however is the opposite. All we did was shorten the gear lever to an acceptable amount, but when you do that the leverage decreases. So its quite difficult to shift gears. To sort this, we'll be creating the exact same brake lever for the gears too. A little more testing and it should go well!
  • We are trying to make rearsets in such a way that you can use passenger pegs without hassles. But to develop such a setup is a hassle in itself!

Next stage:

- Upsweep Goldstar silencer and chrome plating
- Complete gear side rearsets
- Chrome plate rearsets and other parts
- Prepare brackets for BSA taillight
- Tweak clubman handlebar

Attached two pics. Both before painting. Will upload recent pics soon.

Re: Another RE Project!

Here is a small teaser :) The rear 130/80-18 does give it a nice show!

Re: Another RE Project!

FINE FINE! Here is a proper pic!

Silencer is now upswept. See pic. Bike is almost complete.

A few tweakings are pending on:
- Handlebar (slightly bent)
- Rearsets (gear side is extremely hard | seen in pic)
- Still considering whether to put a rear mudguard or not
- Brackets for rear taillight pending
- Grips shall be changed so bar-end weights can be used
- Side Stand will be installed soon
- Chrome plate silencer/rearsets/other miscellaneous parts

Any comments/suggestions?! Will do a proper photo shoot once the bike is completely ready!
