Hi guys, I am chris from netbikes.com.au, I started a cafe E-list 10 years ago at netbikes but of course and as usual I was before my time so I shut the list down due to little interest in Cafe's, all of a sudden the have become a fashion accessory and business'es are popping up everywhere, go figure.
I have been building cafe bikes since I was 14, now 58. First was a 250 bsa which my dad bought for me, I turned it into a flat tracker and did the local mudflats. In 69 I bought a new Honda S90, carved a hunk out of the seat and put turned down flats on it, in 70 I bought a new CB350, fitted ace bars, cut down seat and fitted Wasal pipes, they were twin per side so it looked like a 4 cylinder, remember this was 2 years before the 350F, guess where Honda got the idea from. About the same time I bought a Triumph T110 for $75.00, I sold it for $150.00 a few monts later , vibrate, rattle, leak and handle badly. I then bought a 1972 Ducati 450 Silver Shotgun, nothing to do there, it was just right. After that there are a few lost years, just can't remember much till about 1978 when I met my now wife, we moved the Sydney, nice place to visit as they say but we stayed for 3 years anyway, down there I had a few different bikes, R5 Yamaha, K2750 Honda and a H2, bought the H2 back to QLD but sold it just before we got married, bought a new RZ350 in 84 and bacically that was my lot till I bought a Norton 650SS in 89, restored that, Manx cafe style of course, that was a beautifull bike both to look at and ride. In 1995 I swapped it for a new Ducati 400SS at Phil Beaumonts, value $11000 on the road, so that was a good deal for those days. Sold the duke with only 2000K up to finance starting netbikes. Since then about 100 bikes have passed thru my hands but I have kept a few of course and still love building those cafe's. I do work on other's bikes from time to time and there is a running joke around here not to take your bike to chris unless you want clipons and rearsets when you pick it up I have a project page at netbikes but it is not really about cafe's, just a few bikes I have saved in recent times. If you want to look go to
