School me on my carb questions

Been Around the Block
I have a 1972 cb750k with a 4 to 1 exhaust (unknown brand- allows for oil filter removal, and center stand, no chrome), probably no engine upgrades (unknown PO engine, bike received as inoperable), stock air box. Current main jets are 110 (stock for 72), with 40 slow, jets found in carb when recieved were 125's, needle 2nd position (1 down from center, aka richer)
My previous plug chops (unknown rpm, no gauges on the bike yet, coming though!) read fine, maybe the slightest bit rich at idle but perfect at what I suspected to be 2500 - 3500 rpm range. Compression test 120 across the board.

Recent problems -

Idle into drive, more when cold- engine bogs down and stalls unless clutch is riden for long period of time or pulled in completely.

Lots of engine heat (though this may normal and im not used to it)

the engine idles fine once warm, but needles to be reved a bit to keep from dying before up to temp. from looking at charts, http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/file/n3966301/jetgraph-onpage.jpg, the needle positions are what determine from idle to launch.

My questions-
I read some where that if you are a final needle position you should really move to the next size jet- True or False?

Can I use the same needle with main jets 125 as my 110's

Upon closer inspection I noticed my carb bodies are not all stamped the same, 1, 2 and 4 are all 657a and 3 is 657b. Is this an issue?

With what ive said should I move up to my 125's or drop the lowest needle grove and keep the 110's (stock)?
