Scrap metal prices raising prices of project bikes?

Must be that sweet Japanese steel. I just started looking on CL for a new project bike and these people are smoking some good shit. I bought my bike a few years ago for $400 running with a title, and now people want like 2g's for bike's that don't run or have a title. Man guess it will be awhile before I find a new project, time to start looking in old lady's garage windows. :(

I blame Cafe Racer TV. Everyone thinks these bikes are rusty gold now.

I second alexmac. Since cafe's have hit the mainstream, even Grandma and Grandpa Jones have heard about them and feel they can supplement their income with the rust bucket they've used as a flower pot for 40 years. It sucks, but if you look, you can still find dirt cheap bikes, with titles. Just gotta wait til YOUR deal comes along.

I hear ya. In my neck of the woods ANY CB750 CB550 etc is listed for ridiculous prices. Bikes that are solid rust and corrosion with barely any restore-able parts.

you guy's must live in a similar zone as myself. I can't find a deal for nothing as every Joe wants a fortune for their rust. They definitely think they have gold but they don't realize that you can barely get new parts for these tthings and would take more money than they are worth to get them to the quality that they think they have. It ain't always paint and carb cleaning needed.

If you are patient, have the cash and a means to pick it up on-the-spot, they still exist:

Very nice bikes how much did you pay for them? I know they were not near me because they have no rust. Up here in the North east all of these bike's are rusted, which is fine with me because I will strip it anyway but like we said these people think they are worth their weight in gold. Damn cafe racer tv. ha.
