Seat suggestions for Honda cb200

ok guys... need some help/advice here...

When I bought the bike from my friend, he has welded some raised supports on the frame for the new seat:

And this is the seat he threw in:

Now I didn't really care for the seat much (partly because it needed some 'glass work in the back) and because I thought I would like the tracker look more... and I cut off the tabs he had welded on...

SO... I decided to try fabbing one up with a skate deck and some foam:

I got some foam, shaped it and took it to a local shop to have them upholster it... unfortunately, it didn't retain much of the up-sweep I planned for and, quite frankly, I hate the way it looks:

Now I am thinking I DO want a fiberglass cafe style seat after all... but seeing as how I cut those raised supports off, do I have any options that will seat flush on the frame? and a seat that doesn't have a gaping hole in the rear? What are you guys using?

Also, I prefer to just buy one rather than make one at this point. After wasting so much time on this thing I'd rather just break out the pocket book....

anddddddd........... GO!

thanks! and I'll sell this if someone wants it... I will lose tons of money on it but oh well...

Check out Glass from the Past and Airtech fiberglass. They both make glass seats for narrow frames.

I would say RocCitycafe, but all his seats are for larger frames.

Make me an offer. I put $150 into it just getting it upholstered not to mention the foam and custom work. If I dont get anything amazing I will mount it up when the bike is done to see how it looks...

One more idea...looked at your intro post and saw the cool pipes you have..kind of reminded me of this bike a little:

You could maybe make and attach a little aluminum cowl like that to your skateboard seat. On the side of the cowl that faces the tank you could bend it to meet the seat so you don't have any gaps but yet get a bit of rise to it. Then add a little vinyl or rubber to the lip so it doesn't slice the seat open.

did you cut the loop piece that was welded across from side to side of the frame?

yes there were 4 of them he had welded on and I cut them so the skate deck would sit lower

i see, they would get in the way big time i bet..
but you should definately re brace the frame there again somehow to prevent flex, could possibly cause bad things. a loop at the end of the frame would work great with your skate deck seat.

The braces were custom.. they were braces for the fiberglass seat.. there are still the oem ones on the frame but I DO need to weld another one in near the front for the seat to mount up to..

I'm going to be building it back up soon before powdercoat to see where I need to weld a few things and I will entertain the idea of the rear loop...

thanks guys!

I make a Bates TT replica seat and a Big Bike Racing seat that are narrow enough for your frame. One of my daughters had me put a Harley XR tank (modified) and XR seat on her CD175 (the dimensions of the CB200 frame and the CD175 frame in the top tube area should be similar). IMHO, I thought the XR seat was a teensy bit wide, but she liked it (the tank looked perfect). All 3 seats would definitely give your bike a street tracker look. They are $101.77 CDN plus taxes and shipping as applicable. A great quality part for the money.
Though it might sound odd, I have had great success using the Ducati 750S seat on smaller bikes. The basic seat starts at $115.04 CDN, with various options available - stowage, seat base for upholstery, optional hinged seat base, keyed latch, etc etc.
The above-mentioned seats are long enough to use with the stock tank.
If you are looking for more of a road race look, I make a Suzuki "TR250" seat that has the profile of the famous TR750 seat but is much narrower to fit on X6/ T250 frames - again, around the same top tube width as your frame. The pan portion of the seat is about 6 inches longer than the TR750 seat, so it could be used with a shorter (not GP-style) tank - just trim to the length you want.
If you're interested in photos of any of the above seats, please email me at pacomotorstuff@cogeco.ca
As a caveat: whether you buy a seat from me or someone else, unless the vendor specifically states that it will fit your bike, you will have to fab some brackets / cut some metal or 'glass / design some bits and pieces to make it fit.
Good luck on your project.
Sincerely,
Pat Cowan,
