Been Around the Block
This board has been a fantastic resource for me while I've owned this bike - I'm super thankful for all the awesome encouragement and advice given! I'm in a space in my life where I'm really simplifying things, and as awesome as the bike is, it doesn't make the cut against my music and my sailboat. I hope somebody with a deep passion for riding and working on bikes will really give this guy the attention it deserves! Email the CL address to get in touch.

This is a 1974 Honda CB450 motorcycle, with some tasteful (and reversible) cafe mods done to it. I have really loved this bike, it rides great, has plenty of power for the freeway, it is quiet when ridden gently but opens up to a nice snarl when you really crank the throttle. I absolutely love the way it looks, too. I'm selling it because although I love it, it's not a *passion*, and I need to put my money towards the other expensive passion I already have (sailing). Also I just moved into an apartment with no covered parking, so the poor thing has been sitting out in the rain and needs a good home, preferably somebody with the tools and knowledge to take this bike to the next level.

It's in great shape. When I got it it was a deep maroon red, and I still have that tank and airbox covers. I bought spare gas tank and air covers, hammered/bondo'd knee dents, painted them. Since I got it, most of the work has been done by Jeremiah at North City Vintage Honda - he's fantastic:

Added clubman bars
replaced stock rectifier with new one
replaced battery
completely redone brake caliper
new fuel hoses, installed inline fuel filters
LED tail light, Halogen headlight. Bright as shit!
Bridgestone Spitfire tires (installed last fall)
Top end rebuild this spring (new floats, carb seals, etc.)

Notes:
I didn't get the gas tank powdercoated, so when gas invariably gets on it it starts to eat away at the clearcote. The top of the tank has some dark marks where gas has leaked out of it. The tank could probably use a quick sanding and another coat of clear, or powdercoating.

The front innertube needs to be replaced. For some reason the last time I rode it above 65mph it started to lose air. I reinflated it and it holds air just great for normal city speeds, but for some reason at high speeds it starts to empty itself, which, obviously, is a bad thing. I think the motorcycle place on Aurora charges $60 to re set a tire/innertube.

The starboard spark plug has helicoil on it - and the helicoil comes out when you remove the spark plug. The plug is great, but you'll probably want to figure out the best way to do a permanent fix there.

I never use the electric start, but Jeremiah tells me the clutch plate on the electric starter is starting to go. Historically it lived in my old house's garage and it was pretty easy to start, but since being out in the elements the past month you have to kick it over for a minute or two until it gets going. Putting it back in a nice dry garage will be great for it.

Oh man, I hate to see someone giving up on bikes but it sounds like your plate is full.
I hope it finds a good home and you enjoy your hole in the water! :p
