Seattle headlight emergency!

Well, not technically an emergency, but there's this reeeally attractive girl who has been asking about my bike and I've got a date with her tonight, and my headlight is out...

I called Bent Bike in Lynwood, and they said that the headlight for the CB450 was a special low-wattage headlight that needs to be specially ordered... Is this true? I really want to ride my bike tonight, but I'm afraid I'm probably going to have to be like "oh, uh, the headlight's out..." LAME!

Are both the low and highbeam out? If the highbeam is still good, just use that temporarily. The stock headlight is a sealed beam rated at 25/35 watts which is pretty low so the shop is on the level. No modern bikes use it anymore. If you use an H4 bulb conversion, 55/65, you will drain the battery while riding with it on. There are low wattage H4 bulbs but they are rare, maybe a scooter shop will have one.

Good luck with your hot date.

DrJ saves the day...but hey man if she only likes you for the bike......well then you only like her for the action.

Its late now, I hope you did your very best to, as the toxic twins say, "chip away at the stone"

I think both are out - actually when I pulled the headlight off I found a piece of wire the PO had used to jumper the highbeam / lowbeam circuits, so the highbeam (or lowbeam, I don't know) was always on, no matter which switch was thrown. I bet they did this because one burned out and they couldn't be bothered to get a new one...

So, it's sounding like I probably should just go for another sealed beam headlight if money is a concern - I pretty much only ride in the city, and any long trips will be during the day anyway, so sealed beam it is.

The date was of course awesome. Got a (couple) long kiss(es) goodnight.

SO, I took my bike in to North City Vintage Honda today and Jeremiah put clubmans on the bike, as well as gave me an H4 headlight setup and LED tail light. He tested my charging system and said it was working better than normal ones (I put a new style rectifier in there last week), so we'll have to see how it goes. I'll try to stick to the low beam in general (esp. since right now when the switch is on highbeam it cuts out my taillight...)

I'm getting used to the clubmans - it's a very different riding posture, but not uncomfortable...
