That sucks man. Try flipping your carb upside down. Might be restricted for fuel in that position.

Is it getting spark still?

Ohh double lame. Might be worth getting a few tube sockets and a double ended screw driver. Isn't hindsight a bastard.

Yah I'll definitely carry a full set of tools in a backpack from now on! I hope the fuse is the culprit, this is the first extended ride on the highway since I've (correctly) adjusted my clutch and my digital voltmeter was reading 13.1 at the headlight, which is the highest i've seen it go and I was at it for 20+ miles before the engine died

First lets fix this...

OK we need a clear definition of "Loss of power"

Was she still running, w a loss of power? as in dropped a cylinder?

Or was she just dead?

Was the Headlight AND OR twilight working?

Or just completely dead?

coasting to a stop...clutch pulled in...nothing.

Ha, thanks for the pic flip. Don't know why my phone took it right side up and the website turned it.

Ok here goes: The lights were on and everything felt great until i decreased the throttle slightly, instead of smoothly decelerating there was a quick jolt (like I applied the brakes) and when I pulled over the engine died. All electrics still worked and the RFID was still recognizing the key fob. I checked fuel and battery readings and kicked about 100 times before I gave up. The engine still turns smoothly so I was thinking the problem was electric but truthfully I don't know until I dig into it.

When I get the patience I'm going to look at ignition coils and fuses, if it turns out I have no spark.

sudden fail like that is usually bad fuse/wire/electrical ign component, or mechanical, piston heat seize, something let go inside, but since it is turning over without terrible noises I would say a coil or something gave up the white smoke and a multi-meter is your new best friend.

Side note...

Don't carry a bunch of crap in a backpack while riding if you can help it. Something goes wrong amd you get tossed, it's a good way to break your back/ribs.

OK Stop right there...

Why did you pull over? Why didnt you just gas it and keep going? IS THAT the time of the loss of power? Like she was running on one cylinder?

I pulled over because the engine sounded like it was struggling and I thought I might have not had my petcock in the "reserve" orientation. I've never had it run on one cylinder so no idea what that feels/sounds like

Hopefully it's just a fuse. I've had very minor things like that happen, and immediately imagined all the worst scenarios before finding out it was something simple (like the time I kicked the bike 12 times before realizing I had forgotten to turn on the key).

Regarding your tool kit, I threw this ammo box on my bike, full of tools, zip ties, flashlight, electrical tape, duct tape, spare light bulbs, spare fuses, etc... At first I thought it looked silly, too "slapped on" but after the 4th time I was able to repair my bike on the side of the road, I decided I'll never not have the thing on there...

with your 2x2 exhaust its easier to tell. It sounds kinda right but just not right. and its got almost zero power. being warmed up Im a little surprised it wouldnt idle. Or try to start up.

but yes...check your fuses.

pull the plugs check them for color. If you got one white and one black, its possible you tore a hole in a diaphragm, (fouled one plug).

If the color is good, crank her over to see if you got spark on both plugs.

Then go from there. You could have melted a wire on something hot, knocked something loose on a bump...etc

also my old NOS bottle toolbox.
