Shipping in general from online shops

insurance is a waste of your money, better to just self insure(consider the money saved as an "account") you will be way ahead in the long run
as long as you package things secure and safe, then, well it comes down to theft or loss i believe it is mostly theft tho and if you use usps insurance it says so right on the package........"steal me"
the %ages are not there to justitify insurance
i have shipped well over to 10,000 packages and can count the number of times of a need for full recovery on one hand and a toe ,this includes 1000's of international shipments
that said i do very rarely insure usually on items $500 or more but use a 3rd party insurer

I used to not insure.

Then, I sent of a $6,000 Breitling to Israel. Apparently, they don't cooperate with the tracking. He said watch never showed up, I had no way to prove otherwise. He got his money back, I was out a Super Avenger.

Theres a difference in a 6000 dollar item and a 200 dollar item.
That blows though.

There is. But, if someone claims their item was stolen, etc. I send thema new one, and 90 days or so down the road, I get the money back for the original.

The stories go on and on, so before everyone gets bored here's my latest. I ordered a used part from Pinw@ll an online salvage company. The part sold for $9.95 and when I asked for the shipping estimate it came to $31.00. Now like some of you I live in Canada and I know there are ways for things to get here under the line of sight of the Customs guy. But I have had experience with this company and everytime they send something it gets caught by Customs and I end up paying taxes on the parcel valve which is..... wait for it.... $40.95, yup the cost of the piece and the shipping charges. So even though I was buying this off EGay I filed for a cancellation of purchase do to the high shipping charges. EGay saw it my way and cancelled the transaction.

I now schedule my purchases around my vacation and business trips in the USA, I order before I leave in time for the package to arrive at my hotel, pick it up and carry it back home saving duties and taxes. Love it when my money stays in my pocket and not passed on to some dick with an attitude and a badge! 8)

My shipper automatically fills in the customs forms for orders though my website. Nothing I can do to change the value on those. eBay, and direct orders, I can gift, or put like $25 on.
