So I found an '82 gl1100 for 600. It runs and is cosmetically decent. The problem is that it won't move. The dude says it maybe the drive shaft. I'm going to look at it Monday and it's not going anywhere. I got the go ahead from the wife as long as I sell a bike. So goodbye 68 cb350 hello goldwing. Any opinions? Anyone got an idea about why the bike won't move? Hopefully not the tranny...

Duh!
What I meant was, I won't buy the bike with a transmission problem. That'll be a deal breaker. I don't have any experience with shaft driven bikes, but I'm hoping I can figure out the problem when I go give it a look-see.

Deviant, www.NGWCLUB.com those guys know pretty much everything about the GL1000-1100's The transmissions on these things are tough as nails, and the drive shaft isn't complicated. The brakes however will lock up tight if not used regularly and first thing you need to do is change the timing belts, if those break you will destroy the heads, pistons etc. That is about the only thing that can kill the H-4's in these things. I am going to change mine out even though I know they are only 2 years old. Hoosier Daddy sent me the part #'s for Napa belts. Much cheaper than honda and made in the same factory apparently. Check my Nudie wing thread in BAP and they are in there. I have been riding my GL everyday to work and took it on a 240 mile ride on the weekend. Love it. I want another one now so I can completely rebuild it frame up and still have one to drive. 600 is steep if it won't move. I have seen motors for 2-300 on CL though so if the bike has a title and is good otherwise, a motor swap may not cost too much. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks, Maritime. I've been lurking over at naked goldwing for years. Love that site. This bike is out however. No title. No Deal! Oh, well. I'll find my gl some day.

Title is mondo important, else it's a parts bike. The right deal will come someday. Good working GL's can be had for less than a grand with title.

Cheers,

Maritime
