Hey Everyone.
I had this question in my thread but it doesn't seem to be getting much play so I figured I'd start a thread specifically for this question.
I'm trying to get a CL175 up and running. When I bought it I was told that one of the carbs was gummed up. When I tore into them I realized both were nasty... as well as the petcock. The gas was the most rancid I've smelled. Along with the smell and dark varnish gas there was this white stuff. Honestly, it looks somewhat like the liner in the gas tank. And this has me wondering.
While cleaning everything I decided to look in the gas tank to see if the sealer up to par. Right inside the gas cap is seems to be strong. When I started looking down deep it wasn't looking so hot. I got a long screwdriver to gently poke around a bit. Turns out the stuff at the bottom of the tank is all wrinkled up and not attached to the tank anymore. It moved round quite freely. I do not want to go through the hassle of cleaning the carbs just to have some old sealer make it's way to them.
So here's my questions:
Does it sound like I need to remove the sealer?
If so, what have you guys found works best for removing tank sealer?
Maybe the gunk in the carbs and petcock was totally unrelated to the liner. I don't know. I've never had to deal with tank sealers.
