Simple engine question - which procedure first?

I'm doing a tune up on a cb125 (1974). This is going to include adjusting: valves, breaker points, cam chain, etc. But I'm not sure which one to do first. Because if everything's out of order, what are you basing your, say valve adjustment, off of?

it shouldnt matter as each of the things you have stated have specific settings which will be in your manual, or if you dont have one look the valve clearances, points and plug gaps and cam chain tension up on the internet...hope this helps Daz ;)

But I thought everything was based off of the cam chain ratio?

Either way, the manual sucks. "To adjust cam chain, loosen lock nut, and adjust the tensioner nut. It will get hard and loose depending on the way you turn it"

And then...? AND THEN!?!??!?! AND THEN!? AND THEN!? AND THEN!? AND THEN!?

I adjust valves first, because your engine needs to be stone cold, i.e. not run that day. For the others, I like to turn the engine over when I'm done to make sure I didn't do something stupid (like set the points gap on the wrong mark on a CB550).

Thanks for the feedback.

As long as you do the chain tension before the points, the rest doesn't matter. Do the valve adjustment whenever.

Except when the engine is warm/hot. I think he was looking at doing the procedures all at once...

Yeah I was. Unless it's better to warm it up half way through?
