Single carb on a CB450?

cookiemonster

I was born with nothing and still have most of it.
Has anyone ever tried or heard of anyone making a single carb intake for a CB450? If so how big of a carb is needed? Just a thought, Trying something different.

could work... from what I understand, the cb450 pistons are 180' on the crank, so 90' on the cam, and with intake valve overlap, I would assume that there would be a point where both intake valves are open and could possibly spike the manifold vacuum level leading to a rich or lean condition... possibly... I'm not 100%

I think most bikes with single carb conversions have pistons at 360 on the crank, and 180' on the cam, so you would never be drawing air into both cylinders at the same time

^ That's a good point.

Also, the frame on the CB has a single downtube at the rear, so you either have to offset the 2-1 manifold to one side......which would make it difficult to get the intakes the same length.....OR.....run a LONG 2-1 around the downtube and have the carb near the rear wheel. Either way is not ideal. Do-able, but not ideal.

Makes sense, but I was thinking of having 2 intake tubes wrap around to one side like a ram-air. Don't really know if it would help performance wise but would look killer!

early 450's were 180* IIRC and late 60's on (and 500t) are 360*

Other than clearance around the central frame member you should be OK.
I'd run something like a 36-38mm carb on longish runners
