It does still seem pretty chubby... still not entirely sure where my legs are going to go. It's still only about 17inches wide at the widest part (the massive tumor on the right side)

I want this, how much would you charge to send my way one of these little guys? I'm also in the Seattle area btw.

Im amazed at the CAD skills. That stuff just blows my mind. Congrats man this is going to be really awesome.

Those cad drawings look really slick, man. How are you going to go about making the fairing from them? Yeah, I know nothing about cad...

Only time will tell, I will have to break the fairing model into a couple of pieces, at least the upper (around the headlight) and the two lower sides. Then I'll have to cut molds out of foam, or MDF or a combination of the two, and lay up the fabric just like that car that was posted a number of pages back. I can't go into more detail, because I won't know until I screw it up a couple of ways, and you can watch that process along with me when I get to it.

I would love to make my little models for people, but if I did that I wouldn't have time to build the full sized one, i barely manage to get anything done as it is. Thanks for the interest though.

I managed to get my steering head bearings set in the other night

So I've finally got a proper roller that I can move around without it all falling apart. Also picked that top tree up from 66replica, thanks.

Also Messed with the seat mold a little more last night:

I had originally shot a bunch of that expanding foam... the stuff that didn't work before for the fairing mockup. But it just wasn't working, it never got hard enough, and was a big mess. I had to cut and rip it all out and glue some more foam to the mold that I will have to cut back later (working on that today)

also sprayed my drum housing... I want to do a bunch of stuff like this, fork lowers, all brake hardware, essentially anything that was "polished metal" from the factory other than the engine.

I'm not happy with it so I'm kind of dragging my feet because I don't know what to do. It looks like paint because the clear coat "puddles" at the edges... I want it to look like it's sandblasted and super clean, matte silver in other words. I can't actually sandblast it and leave it raw because it would suck up oil and dirt like a sponge. I might have to get it all powder coated after all, I was hoping to avoid that because I thought that a gloss would be easier to clean and I used Bondo on it and will have to use it on at least the fork legs to fill the tapped holes that the fender mount bolts went into. Again though... I don't like it, so I'm not anxious to do the rest of the parts.

There's a ton more detail in my blog if you're interested (click my signature or any of the pics)

Looks good, but I understand what you mean about the build-up. The key is to use several thin coats. The clear coat in particular is prone to this. I've also seen powdercoat exhibit this behaviour, so I'm not sure that's your answer either? It all comes down to the application.

Hang in there. You'll get it done eventually, and it will look great.

cheers
