Ski/snow board seat.

I am making a seat from an old disgarded board... it cost me nothing and I've made the first few cuts, this is a work in progress I won't be putting seating foam on the seat instead i will paint it in a full gloss black with a race strip down the middle, due to the slight curve it doesn't sit flush on the frame which acts like a sprung seat to some degree...I hope i am not on a slippery slop with this idea.

Some initial pics:

The board as she was. This was being thrown out.

And now after a few cuts.

This is the general shape and size I am going for, see I am starting on the bum stop in all I think this will cost me about $30 finished.

Have to say very cool idea ! going to be a rough ride im thinking tho, you might want to run some foam across the seating area . then say cut out where you want your stripe to run would make like a raised seat ? how big is the bump your planning on building ?

This is going on a very small bike a Kawasaki KV 100 and it is my first build so I am open to ideas on the size of the bum stop, I plan to run more of the same material from the bum stop to the end of the board following the downward curve, so the tail will drop down toward the stock mud guard which i will keep on the bike, it looks kinda cool like that in my opinion. The old tail lamp fitting looks good so no need to change that.

Here's a shot of her backside.

As for the height of the bum stop well it is at 4" but it could be smaller.

Also I like the suggestion of some foam pieces for comfort, see what eventuates.

Thanks for your feedback so far.

Nice idea!!! I was thinking about using an old skateboard for my bike,lol...

The skate deck is a pretty popular mod. Search a bit and you'll find several good threads with tips on that gem.

After what seems to be ages i finally got time to do more work on the seat..I really don't know how this will turn out in the end but it will be learning experience in any case...I've never tried to form a shape such as this before and spent nights semi sleeping with ideas teaming around my feeble skull trying to figure it all out..sleep deprived I eventually figured I needed to make some templates out of card until I got the shape I thought would look good.

After putting the templates to some material I came up with this:

Some shape and form. Sorry the pics not the best.

These pieces give me the shape I want and will need filling with something!

Some more sleepless nights and I decided upon expanding foam to filled the gaps and hopefully allow me to shape the tail as i want:
This stuff expands like mad...icecream anyone? This is about an hour after application as you can see I will need to do some trimming but it is really easy to work with. It cost only $17.00au.

It's taking shape: A filleting knife was used to cut the foam with and no fish was hurt in the production of this seat.

The trimming is nearly done now:

The tail needs more work a little filling and then sanding those screws will come out and the holes filled then either covering it with leather or painting. Got to let it cure for 6 hours before it's ready for sanding. I suggest anyone working with this stuff that you cut it into the basic shape before it fully cures as it is easier to work. I believe it to be quite hard once fully cured...now off to have a beer :)

Update to follow.

The beauty of working with Exanding foam is you can fill holes and depressions easily wait a bit and then shape. Here I have filled where needed.

This may end up covering the seat!
