sl125 21 inch by 2.5 inch rim will a 3 inch wide tire fit?

I'm swapping my 19 inch tire on my sl350 to a 21 inch sl125 tire. My question is will a 3 inch wide tire fit the 2.5 inch wide rim? I'm looking for an Avon vintage style street tire. the only thing I can find in a 2.5 is a dirtbike tire. Yes I know its a dirtbike rim! Thanks for any help you can provide.

Look for a stamping on the wheels - should be 1.60 or 1.85. Those are the sizes you need to know.

I will look for that thank you. I guess the bigger question is will my sl350 hub lace up to the skinnier rim? Should I stop being a cheap skate and find a more expensive later model sl350 21 inch rim.

Or look for an MX alloy rim, they are usually designed for a 3" tyre
