Got the bike running and rode it around. The gearing is way to short for the road but is grate off road. Had to try it out in the field so I did it rode like a dream a, a dream with soggy soft springs! while off road i got the bike muddy... My fresh clean new bike got muddy! haha oh well it was a blast to ride!

The other night I found an SL350 project bike for a few hundred bucks. After reading through some of these threads, I decided to take it home. I'm stoked! I can't wait to ride this thing around and get it dirty! I've heard from a few different people that I shouldn't treat this bike like dirt bike. I wonder how durable it will be...

Do you know if you had factory gearing in there or if it was modified?

Looking forward to the pics!

Its stock... This will give you an idea of how it compares to other bikes

Stock gear ratios

CB350 SL350K1 SL350K2
1st 2.353 2.353 2.866
2nd 1.636 1.636 1.800
3rd 1.269 1.280 1.333
4th 1.036 1.036 1.035
5th 0.900 0.900 0.870

Final 2.250 2.500 2.625

Its a real torque monster! will pull some good wheelies to! (not that i would know) ;)

If you are going to keep it at below 55 it would be fine, but as a "motorcycle" aka doing a lot of 55-60 like I do at home it would need taller gears. So I looked into changing up the gearing and SL sprocket can be hard to come by since there not the same as the CB and CL but this is what I will go with when the time comes.

As far as holding up I don't think it will be a issue! The frame is tube frame not the pressed steal and it seemed really solid off-road but it will need stiffer springs to feel like a modern dirt bike. But the twin feel really good off-road and huge contrast compare to the single cylinder dirt bikes. Still don't know if ill keep the bike or let it go... I hope to have a job and some $ flow when I graduate so I might hold onto it until then so I can finish it and then go from there.

Well I made it home this weekend and got the finished pictures!

Here is a before and after. Not a huge difference from a distance but when you get close its a world of difference!
