I recently got a 82 Suzuki GS1100E. Bike is clean as hell but needs a new head gasket and probably a carb (all 4) rebuild. It'll turn over with the new battery and run for a bit on starter fluid. It's totally complete and has a title and new paint.
Something like that over here (Australia) would be worth around $1000 - $1500 in the condition you've described, if it was registered and didn't need any work....$2500 - $3500.
How do you know it needs a head gasket? They often leak oil either out of the cam chain tensioner or from the copper washers under the head nuts. In both cases the oil runs to the front of the head and looks like a head gasket leak.
Hey Ethonal,
I have a set of cherry original pipes for that. I have an '82 and the guy I bought it from took the originals off when it was two weeks old and they came with the bike. They are great bikes to ride.

Yeah the leak might be a more "normal" leak and not a head gasket and it looks pretty heavy. Guess I'm just being cautious (some would call it pessimistic).
I just sold an 82 for 1100 in running condition with clean carbs, new plugs, new battery. I think it was a fair asking price, but that's a matter of opinion, really. I knew what I had into it.
