So.. does anyone else shoot long distance or enjoy gun porn?

Hey team,
I was just wondering if anyone else out there enjoys the long range shooting?

I’m luckily enough to have several ranges close by that provide anywhere from 600 to 1000 yards of shooting steel.

I’ve shot in a few 600 and 1000 yd F matches and some 400 tach matches with my AR10, nothing to special, just for fun mostly, the longest I’ve’ gone out to date is 1200.. That’s was nice.. I’m actually trying to setup a mile shoot.. I’ll let you know if that happens.

Anway on to the pics..

Here’s our 600 yd range

Here’s out 900 yard range

Here’s our 1000 + spot, again steel targets 1 & 2 MOA at 200 and out to distance.

Personnaly I started my kids out early on the right path ;) they know what there 2nd adamant is and my boy thoroughly enjoys shooting, Here he is performing load development and banging steel at 400 yards, and yes I know, I’m working on his stance..

Here’s my long range baby, it really so accurate to be truthful it’s not even fun shooting it under 600

IMG_7457-4.jpg

And Yes.. that is a naked girl on a can of whoop ass I painted on the scope

IMG_7463-5.jpg

Here’s my 16” LAR 8 .308, I love this gun.. It’s awesome to shoot at anything under 500 yards, unfortunately that’s’ the limit of the ACOG.

IMG_9082-5.jpg

IMG_9438-1.jpg

For the 300 yards and under category I’ve got ACR and a RFB

IMG_7136-2.jpg

I’ve got a few other too but that’s enough for now..

So, how about you? How far do you shoot and what types of toys do you have?

Your toys make me envious! The farthest I can shoot around here (at a range at least) is 430 yds. My AR15 will happily ring the steel at that distance, but the gun's so light a cup of coffee will kill my accuracy! ::)

Hey shooting a 55gr bullets 400+ yards Accurately is not a easy task by any means, and more importantly is hearing that sweet sound of steel after a successful shot.

Well for what it worth, the problem with having so many places to shoot is, well it’s is expensive to shoot.. Luckily I reload and have been for years,

IMG_8738-1.jpg

I typically load this about every four months or so..

IMG_8324-1.jpg

It still hurts the wallet every time I take my kids out to the range and watch them waste hundreds of rounds down range.. hahaha..

That looks like some awesomely fun hardware you have there!

I used to compete in long-range target rifle...does it still count if I don't use a scope? :p

ive just stated shooting.
my range only goes out to 300yds.

im using a .22lr at 100yds and getting 1.5in grouping and trying to get that smaller. dont have a high dollar .22 rig

i also just picked up a 1939 nagant to use out to 200 with iron sights.....should be fun

im starting to think about building a longer range better rig.
maybe and AR but im not sure.
NY laws kinda sux so nothing to much fun...lol

Cool! I love gun porn and shooting but sadly the longest range I have to use is 200 yards. And my nicest iron is actually an m44 mosin nagant from 1946. But its fun, and im building an ar15 that will probably be finished in about 5 years haha. But I know if it wasn't for cafe racers id be spending a lot more time and money on guns. I really some of the pics on this thread so far!

At the risk of angering the man with several high powered weapons in his possession, I think you made a critical typo there.

Got sniper training in the Army but didn't make the cut (I'm sneaky like a bull in a China shop and my camo looked like street grafiti!!) Still learned to shoot like heck! I still remember the Ft. Benning range with fondness! That's the longest range that I ever had access to.

Had a M1a Loaded Springfield that I punched paper with for ages but age, vision and the current depression (I'm depressed, I had to sell it!!!) conspired to deprive me of it. Never used a scope on it. Just couldn't justify it while I could still see the front sight. That went away with the need for bi-focals! :-\

The last target I shot was 10 shots unsupported at 100 yards and I scored 100 with 3X. I framed the target and hung it over my desk at work. I didn't get many arguments after that!!! Folks accused me of poking holes in it with a pencil!!! ;D

Love to shoot but all that is left are some target pellet rifles. We call them the Pidgeonators!!! 8)

I've never tried anything long range, but I also got my kids in early.
We have a small indoor range about a mile away that we go to every couple of months and squeeze some rounds through my Sigma.
Last time we went it was just me and my younger son (15y/o), as my older son (18y/o) was at Fort Jackson for basic training.
This is him with the Sigma

This is his latest. It's hanging on his bedroom wall

Ammo is cheep and there just plain fun to shoot.. 1.5 @ 100 yards with a 22 is excellent shooting!.. please don't kid yourself, that shooting 1.5 MOA.. not bad at all sir..

Oohhh that Nagant you got.. hahaha I love mine!.. It’s a fun and cheep to shoot, but it kicks more than my DTA.. lol..

Have fun

There are pics of me and some HOGs whacking steel silly-wets at a thousand in 35mph wind.

I envy your range availability, I would spend MASSIVE amounts of cash on ammo with ranges that close. ; )

That is sooooooooooooo Cool... thanks for posting the video.. Trust me, massive amounts of $$$ is pretty much right, lol that's why I cam here, I needed a more affordable hobby. lol..

If you want to have some (fairly) cheap fun with a .22, buy some of those heavy bullet (60 gn I think) cartridges and shoot them through a fairly new target .22 rifle with a fairly fast twist on the rifling. Find a friend with a chronograph. Shoot these slow, heavy slugs through the traps to get a velocity and find some good online trajectory calculators. Set the weight of the bullet, velocity and 300 yards as the longest range and then get the trajectory in 10 yard increments. You have to shoot the rifle like a rainbow (even with a 200 yard zero the drop at 300 is 60 some inches!) and if you use a scope you'll probably have to have mounts that hold the scope at an angle to the barrel. On a nice calm day you can hit 300 yard gongs regularly and win beer!!! Then tell them you can zero their scopes with one shot...... (It's EASY and you don't even have to be a great shot, just consistent!!)

A good ballistics calculator...http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.1.cgi. It even has the info on the 60gn cartridge but you have to substitute your speed and sight angle to the barrel.

I don't have much in the way of "fun" guns. Just the usual hunting goodies (870 12 Ga, Rem Model 100 .308) and some handguns (Springfield 1911, 2 Sig P238s,WWII era FM 1910 (with swastika stamps)) but a guy I work with is obsessed and has been trying to get me to build up an AR for ages now. So I'm probably going to do that as soon as I'm done dumping money into the Beemer. lol

I'm that obsessed guy you work with! 8)

No offense to all of the .223 afficianados! I shot the mousegun (AR) in the Army and never figured out the appeal of shooting anything except paper and rodents with a 22 caliber rifle. I remember all of those stories of fellows coming back from "The Sandbox" talking about shooting badguys 2 and 3 times and then having them shoot back.
A .308 has more energy at 500 yards than a .223 has at the muzzle and it will anchor in place anything you shoot with it! Spending $$$ to custom build a mousegun or spending $$$ on a good .308? I'd go for the bang and thump personally! ;) I glass bedded my M1a to an old military fiberglass stock and it was more accurate than I was. Ended up with about $1800 including 8 20 round military magazines.

Then again, as a group we can justify grinding, cutting, stripping, painting and customizing a perfectly good motorcycle to lighten, skeletonize and speed it up and then consider less to be more.

Humans are funny animals. We'll put lemon in tea to make it sour and then put sugar in it to make it sweet. We'll burp and say excuse me but then fart and laugh about it!! ::)

Brother, if you want a custom AR, build it and post the build under Big AR(se) Projects!!! ;D
