Two things I forgot. one I was working at a Suzuki/Yamaha shop for awhile and they had several insurance bikes come in for repairs. One was a Kawi Z1000 or ZX1 anyhow I snagged an awesome adjustable brake lever and reservoir. had to find a new banjo bolt but no more leaky reservoir and more stopping power it seems likes.
two Has anyone managed a disc brake conversion for the rear wheel on the cb400's? I asked this question in relation to a specific bike model on the tires and wheels section and received a very rude pm telling me that the stock drum was adequate and "I should be happy with that". Man there are some rude people out there. If I WAS happy with it I wouldn't be asking.
I've looked at the jugs for my CB400t and There's not a lot of room in there for any boring but I'll be the first to admit I don't know. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can tell you.
I'm enjoying the CM, and making progress, although slowly, cause I have been having fun riding it. My insurance expires today, so summer is officially over
Was thinking about the 200 for an adventure tracker that I can take on the logging roads around here.
$300 Basket case (not assembled as in photo), 2 engines, one runs apparently. No title, but two frames to do title search on. I could build it up for off road without a title though.
Here's another tip for you folk. You can replace the coil with a GM coil you can pick up at any local auto shop. Should be cheaper than a replacement coil and work better.
I'm a fan of these bikes because they are not that popular because of frame design. The engines are pretty much bulletproof.I'm finishing a 1981 cm400t that I put a 82 cb450 in. I used 81 400 carbs with 120 jets and a shim under the needle.I,m running pods and a crazy open exhaust and it runs great . I also had the head ported and polished and she runs like a scalded ape. The carbs are 34mm so you can give it a lot more flow and gas and she'll love it. i cut the subframe off and rebuild it all from scratch.
That subframe is a huge improvement over stock. Open pipes are always noisy and antisocial and unfortunately hurt power over the range as a rule. I like high pipes and with up-tilted long megaphones they look wicked.
BTW 34mm CV carbs flow about the same as a 30mm slide carb. That's because of the restriction caused by the throttle valve and shaft which reduce flow by 15-20%.
oldskool - Nice work on that subframe. Someone should make that as a kit you could buy . I tend to agree with teazer about the pipes. I live on kind of a main road and every time a bike goes by at 50mph with open pipes you can't talk or hear anything until he's a 1/4 mile away. It's really obnoxious. Also not fun at 2:00am when it wakes you from a dead sleep.
UPDATE: I think I found the issue. These CB400 braces are from an 81 - my CM is a 79.
QUESTION!!!
So I got this crazy idea that the CB400 peg brace would be a perfect fit on a CM400 so I picked some up on eBay. I believe Much Much Go has them (or something extremely similar). I was very wrong.
Here's a pic of the right side. Two of the 2546814 bolt holes line up. Actually one of the bottom bolts line up but it has a high offset so I ground the back of it down so the brace will hug the swing arm.
Has anyone made these or similar braces fit on a CM400?
Hello Guys Im new to this forum. Im building a CB450DX which is very similar to the CM400/CB400T. I have a doubt that i could get any answers to. What are the consequences of removing the exhaust equalizer box thats under the engine? I dont even know if thats the right name for it. I whanna change the stock exhaust into a 2 heads MAC set up without the box cause it really cleans up its looks. TKS!
