So you bought a CM400 / CB400T, now what...(50+ Build Links!)

Hello New Breed, I really like a bunch of the new builds I see going these days. An Overall Higher Quality of builds in general than there were when I started this thread. Some of the Sub Frame Fabs are Awesome. The detailed work that I see is great.

That said I am not sure If I will be able to keep up with the Page One Links anymore as I already feel the tug on me with new projects and demands. I noticed alot of the threads have "died on the work bench" or have broken photo links etc. So Many Bad Links and So many pages now of old ramblings...

I think it may be time for one of you Youngbloods to start a new thread with more current links, I would be happy to include a link to it on Page One front and center anounciong it as a "Round 2" or "2.0" for the Thread.....you can call the thread what you want (Hopefully something better than I came up with...lol) ...just looking for someone to take the torch so to speak.

Let me know here in the thread or by PM if someone is interested.

Either way, hopefully this thread will always be a source of both inspiration and amusement and a place for "like builders" to shoot the shit.....Frankenfe

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing where you take your build. I started appreciating those CM400s after seeing some cool builds on here.. really seems to come down to the seat on that frame to make it or break it.

Mine has taken a slightly different direction since those renders.. I hadn't planned on chopping the frame at that point so I opened up some different options when I built my own rear subframe. It's supposed to be finished in the next 5 days soooo... I'm probably screwed but I'll be making a lot of progress either way.

Can't wait to see what you do with the frame and that fork brace looks awesome!

Ok folks, ran into a wiring problem. I have a long black wire that appears to go directly to the battery and then attach somewhere. Am I crazy? Where the heck does this thing go?

Could anyone help me out? I've relaced my wheels but forgot to measure the hub offset of the rims before disassembly. If anyone could measure this it would be awesome. I'm looking for the offset from the rim to the widest part of the hub on the "open" drum side of the front and rear wheel.

Best way I can think to measure is to lay a straight edge from rim to rim and then use a precise ruler or caliper to measure the distance from this to the hub surface.

Also, got my seat upholstered today and he build is almost done. Here's a teaser shot.

One way to sort this would would be to mount the wheels and see if the rims are off center or not. Front of course should be dead center between the forks. The rear should most likely be centered in the swingarm as measured up at the pivot end, but that's not a for-sure thing as some swingarms are off the centerline of the frame.

Of course if you can put the frame, swingarm and front end together, then center the front wheel, the rear should align to the front.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are asking what are the spacers with the original wheels. However, If you have changed the wheels, the Rim hub width of the new wheels can/may affect this and make the original measurements obsolete.

If you are using a drum on the front , centering in the forks to the best of your ability is what you can do. If you are going with a disc, you will be dictated by centering the rotor in the caliper and any difference in rotor offset from original will need to be dealt with in order to to center the rim.

In the rear alligning the sprockets will affect centering the wheel if the new wheel has a different rear sprocket offset.

Not quite. The rims on laced wheels are not always centered on the hub so there is an offset. I'm using the original wheels, I just need to know the offset for truing the wheels. I appreciate the input though.

I might try to align it with the fork and swingarm if I can't find any definite specs in the clymer or on here

Awesome thread, I just found it today. I am almost finished my Cm400 build and have been think of changing it from what I've been calling a cruiser( what do you think) anyways I was thinking about making it into a cafe racer, OR just pick up another bike and make that one into a cafe racer. Here she is... I still need to put the head/tail light and get some new grips.

So I've read through a ton of these threads and came up with lots of inspiration. I've seen that alot of these bikes came with factory luggage racks, bags and highway/crash bars. I'm wondering if anyone who decided against using these parts would care to part with them. I will be starting a build thread soon, I was planning on doing a mild cafe style build but I've decided to go in the opposite direction and fit it with dual sport tires and Renthal bars... Thanks in advance - CJ in RI

Check out Hondatwins.net and talk to longdistancerider. He's done something similar with his bike. He rides the thing everywhere, and was just on a ride down in baja with it.

Ive got a luggage rack that is in my pile of stuff to sell. You can see it in my build thread (link in signature below). I don't have the cargo box, just the chrome rack. It's in pretty good shape.

Don't want this to become a "for sale" post. PM me if you are interested.
