Soda blasting soda?

Hoosier Daddy

Earache my eye...
I understand cleaning carbs and other raw aluminum bits... But does it cut the factory clear coat on alloy engine covers? I bought glass beads and it is just a little too abrasive. Not as bad as silica sand mind you, it doesn't errode the aluminum... but still having to hand sand the parts smooth afterwards prior to polishing on the buffer.

Another thought on soda supply.

Many cattle farmers/ranchers use soda as a feed supplement.
As a result, you can get 50lb. bags of it at most feed stores.
At both my local feed stores a 50lb. bag is roughly $20.
Certainly not a fine grain as Arm&Hammer and cheap to boot.

I have not done a side-by-side comparo with branded "blasting soda" so I can't say if there is a difference.

This is in the USA, so International pricing will likely vary significantly.

Just another option to consider, right?

HD, you can get really fine grade beads that will do that without cutting into the aluminium. I have some but cant remember the grading for it. It removes paint and varnish easily but struggles to take even the staining from aluminium casings.
