Spark cutting out at higher RPMs. Help....

Useful Idiot

Been Around the Block
Setting the timing on my cb500 twin.

I get the marks lined up with my timing light and tighten everything down.
Blip the throttle a couple of times and the right cyl cuts out.
Around the 4k mark my timing light cuts off. I'm ASSuming because there's no spark in the wire.

Took the points plate off and cleaned the mechanical advance and it looked tip top. Wasn't sticking or anything.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Can't afford electronic right now...

That's what I'm thinking. I've had spark and timing issues since I owned this bike. I'm going to do krukster's 50 mod and get new coils. Then new breakers, etc.

new point are cheaper than new coils.

Could be resistance in the old wires too. Even cheaper than either is a hack I did to my CB350. Assuming the 500 runs directly on the battery the same way the 350 does, all you have to do is hot wire the circuit to bypass the on/off switch and other wiring.
