Spark Plug Wires Need Some Help...

Hey guy's and gal's...

We are finishing up the Cafe Fabrications, CB750 K next weekend. I was wondering what some of you have used for plug wires and what worked or didn't work? I would prefer something that is just Black but high quality. It seems most need to be custom. I was thinking NGK or MSD. We hope to have the bike running by next week. It is literally nothing but a frame and a shit load of pieces at the moment.

BTW. Watch the blog it will be getting a lot of updates today and over the next few days. Let me know what you think of the wheels we built.

I use Bosch inductive-core silicon leads for my machines, and have never had a problem with them. Just replaced a set on my Valiant the other month as they were 5 years old and I figured thats a reasonable service life. Funnily enough, the new set gives a bit smoother running but I think that could be down to the new plugs I put in at the same time. Makes you think, you know? Theres some awesome engineering out there.

I'd suggest taking the old leads down to the store and sizing them direct. I always manage to f*** something up if I don't do that haha.

Cheers - boingk

I just installed some dyna suppression wires to match my new coils and ignition: Which you can see here

I can't isolate the performance on them since I swapped out the coils and ignition too or comment on the longevity since they're brand new... but so ar so good.

On bike I prefer to use copper wires and NGK resistor caps.
It is totally dependent on ignition system though (points, early TPI, Digital TPI , etc)
Factory systems use resistor caps from 5K-ohm to 12K-ohm, wrong overall resistance can effect ignition timing/curve
Earlier the system, less problems with 'wrong' leads/caps

Hmmmmm......
So if I replace the standard coil with a 3 ohm dynatek coil, & modify a pertronix ignitor to run an electronic set up on my CB175.....
Can I use any old leads without resistor caps???
I didn't even think about the leads.

Cheers.

Don't know why you want to run without resistor caps?
Just use good leads, NGK caps and maybe resistor plugs it will actual work better than wires tied on.
Only time it may make a difference is with CDI system

Cool, so Pertronix Ignitor, Dynatek 3 Ohm Coil, Copper wire leads with resistor caps and/or resistor plugs!

Thanks PJ

If you are planning to use an electronic ignition, don't use solid leads as they could screw up the ignition.

So should I just use normal suppressed car type leads with a Non resistor plug then?

This is so much more confusing than it should be. :)

Cheers.
