Speedo and Tach Calibration/Check

I believe that either the speedo or tach or both are off. Does anybody know a good way to check if they good? and if they are crap a way about getting them to read true?

Thanks

P.S. i have a 1981 KZ550A

this may be fairly obvious, but if the bike's rideable it should be pretty easy, just follow a mate in a car, at a set speed, and see how much yours differs. if you know what speed you are travelling, and what gear you are in, then technically you can work out what your revs are IF you know the gear ratios for a kz550. another accurate way would be to borrow a GPS or buy a $20 bicycle computer and mount it to the handlebars.

so i checked my speed on a radar the police set up on a local street today and the speedo checks out but while i was roadtripping a little i brought up the bike to near the top end in 6th gear and i watched the needle approach redline (10,000 rpm) and then bounce back and forth between 8,000 and 10,500 while the motor still felt strong and that it had more power and wanted to go... anybody have this problem before?

haha, no the police put up one of those "the speed limit" vs "your speed" signs on the side of the road so i drove by it twice at 25mph and 35mph and it checked out

try rebuilding the tach if its jumping around... put in new grease and clean it out... it cant really do damage, unless, of course, if you fuck something up ;)
