I talked with my uncle about the general direction I wanted to take with the entire front section of the bike-relocate the ignition/run keyless, flush gas cap, knee dents(partly out of necessity), etc. He called a couple of days later to inform me that he has a spare Ducati 996 gas tank that could use some small repair and that if I wanted it I could have it. Flush gas cap.. knee dents.. my favorite style gas tank.. except its the completely wrong fitment style lol.
What do you guys think about ~fitting~ a sportbike tank to a build.. Is it sacrilegious? I'm tempted to take it just to use in the event of the inevitable next build..

for reference..
The fun isn't what we think will be appropriate. The fun is taking an idea, running with it, and showing us something new! I personally don't like modern bike stylings. But that doesn't mean you couldn't do it right! Have at it!
If it were me, that tank would already be salted away somewhere safe because I would know that one day I could use it - just not on an old style cafe bike.
You can weld in the flush cap from any crunched modern bike or but an Aircraft filler cap. In fact I think I have one here that I bought for a project that's a bolt on - as long as there's a flat surface to bolt it to. I got mine from Aircraft Spruce and never used it.
I think it could look cool, but you didn't say what bike you wanted to put it on.
The bottom of the 916 tank is t going to work with a spine frame vintage bike. It was made to go over a large airbox and the bottom of the tank will get in the way. You also will have to block off the fuel pump and figure out a way to put a petcock in, which likly will either be too low or will not let you use all the gas in the tank. The other option would be to use the fuel pump and a regulator to get the pressure set for carbs, but that has costs and can tax a old stator.
