SR650 project....

m357.5

TURBO KAWI
Picked this up around May, sold it, then got it back....it just wouldnt go away LOL.

So anyway, so far I have fitted a new front master cylinder, rebuilt a set of calipers I had as they were missing, new pads. Rebuilt the rear master and caliper and installed new pads. Tune up including points/plugs/K&N air filter/oil change/cleaned the carbs/new battery. At this point I sold it to my father....wasnt his cup of tea, so he bought a 750 Nighthawk S to replace it. Got it back and decided to finally get it looking decent.

Chucked the signals in the garbage can, fitted a nice set I had sittin in a box of parts off my 750K2. Fitted Superbike bars as the euro bends dont suit me. Bar end mirror that was kickin around in another box of parts. It already had Tomaselli headlight ears and a smaller Suzuki headlight so good to go there. The Wolf pipe was a bit crusty ( I'll blast it and paint it this winter...it will be for sale ) Had a Muzzy stainles pipe here with a nice aluminum can....polished the can and instaled the pipe. Had to weld up one of the mounts on the crashbars as it was bent/cracked. Cleaned LOTS of wiring conections and cleaned up the ratty harness and taped it up. 750L rear shocks as they are adjustable for preload and rebound...another just because they were sittin here in another box doing nothing LOL.

Stripped the tank chemicaly, primed and painted it with Duplicolor rattle cans. Lookied alright so I wet sanded it with 1200 and shot some clear on it ( 3 coats ) I'll wet sand it and do another 3 coats in a couple weeks. Turning out better than I had hoped. The sidecovers were cracked, so bought another set, painting them this week.

Lots of cleaning and polishing and it's lookin pretty good. I'm startin to like it more and more, so next on the list is a tail/seat so I can ditch the rear fender/tailight and add a set of clipons. I have an SR front fender here to cut down but I kinda dig the B/C model chrome front fender...hhhmmmmmm decisions.

Here she was.....and here she is now. Whatcha think ? Still workin slow as my arm is still bitched, this has taken me 4-5 months to get this far, and its mostly cosmetic thus far.

Re: Low Buck SR650 project....

I'm close to ordering a set of 36mm Tarozzi adjustable clipons, and a set of Tarozzi rearsets.....from Fast From The Past. Anyone know who sells Tarozzi in Canada ?

Guess the Low Buck part of the project is over, damn.

Gotta bit of a dilema. Due to the SR tank being squared off, I need a tail that suits the tank shape. I dig 70's race bikes and have narrowed it down to 3 tails. 1st tail is a Kawi H2R, next up is the Suzuki TR750 tail which I like alot, or #3 is a KR250 Kawi tail. Whatcha guy's think ?

1, 2, 3, or do you have another option that you'd like to share ?

I've got some 1" thick stick on race seat foam I bought from Pacomotorstuff I'll be using.

no offense, but i dont notice much difference (paint/cleaned up?)

i would keep those sidecovers on man... unless if you clean out whats behind it so you can see straight through frame. maybe side covers that have slots cut in them with mesh behind them would be TITS

Yep, your right, so far just replace the missing brakes, some clean up and paint. Oh and get it running. Sidecovers are here, being painted this week, no fear of the hideous electrics pokin out.

Upto this point was just to get her ready to resell, but the more I work on it the more it grows on me. So now the project starts, and no it isnt getting ripped to bits for powder nor a rebuild, nor major mods. I already have one of those tear it to bits builds and it just sits there collecting dust while I tinker on this one, or my other 750. This thing aint going to set the world on fire, just a quick tidy, tail, some clipons/rearsets, mod the exhaust a bit and then RIDE it. This build will likely draw little attention, it isnt going to be one of the 30+ page builds that we all go oooooohhhhh aaaaaahhhhh over, it is what it is....an old bike thats gettin some love LOL.

Today I ordered a few things, Vortex 36mm clipons, one of the Danmoto Acewel knockoff gauges....we shall see how it stacks up to a real Acewel, I'll pull it's inards out and post pic's.

Also was talking with Pat ( pacomotorstuff ) about a tail section, we are looking at a few options. Will post up when we confirm a tail.

Oh, chuckin the Keihin carbs, putting on my extra set of Mikuni BS34's. Pod's and a Dynojet kit. Smoked LED signals and a Smoked Edge LED tailight are here for it as well ( DRC )

Anyway, pic of the gauge thats coming :p

Thanks for the link. Waiting on a reply from pacomotorstuff for a tail though.

So, after a couple of personal slams in this thread and another, guess I better step up the build LOL. Dont want to disapoint :p
