Starting without key

Coast to Coast
Someone gave me a CB175 for free. It hasn't ran in a number of years and is like to use the motor for a CL175 cafe build I have going. The bike is totally complete but I don't have the keys. How would I go about bypassing the ignition to hot wire it?

Check the wiring diagram, but it should be the red and black wires in the key switch plug to make a loop for the coils. For lights, I'm not sure the colors.

Connect the red and black wire going into the ignition switch.

are you sure about this? most bikes i've worked on (euro) you had to disconnect the wires to get the bike started and connect them to short the coils so the engine gets no spark and kill the engine.

All the ignition switch does is connecting the red to the black wire, I don't see why you'd need to do anything besides that. Not 100% sure, though.

Generally ignitions have 4 sets of colors.. 2 are for starting and 2 are for the lights.

You can see in the diagram above that the red and black exist as does a brown and white/brown.

Connect red/black to start the bike and connect brown and white/brown if you want lights/accesories.

Can get keys pretty easy, get the code that is on the face of the lock and either ebay that code or go to http://www.hondakeys.com/ and get some ordered. Should be fairly cheap.

Otherwise pull the plug at the back of the switch, jumper red to black, maybe put a toggle switch in between the two for now and get to testing. Don't leave things hooked up and not running, coils will fry if left on for too long.
