Stickers/logos or whatever they are called!

I've made a nice logo (actually half copied ;D) for the Enfield Cafe with a new name. It will be sported on the rear seat cowl. Now how do I make a sticker out of it. Something that doesn't come off or peel off during washing?!

I've heard of two options about which I know very little:
  • Screen Printing
  • Radium Stickers (the ones used on registration plates)

This is what I was thinking of doing: Get a sheet of white radium sticker. Print the inverse color of the logo onto it. This way the white radium part that is unprinted will be the logo and will shine properly. Stick it onto the cowl and laquer it.

What say?! Any other ideas?!

I'm assuming your cowl is a solid piece. If you, you may want to print it as a water slide-on. If you've ever worked on models of airplanes or cars or tanks as a kid, then you'll remember that most of the logos and paint effects were done on a some kind of very thin plastic you had to put in water, then slide onto your model. That's called a water slide-on. I'd do one of those, then clear coat over it to seal it in. It's how a lot of the pros get their logos on their tanks. If you want a "floating" logo ... do a couple of coats of clearcoat, then the waterslide, then a couple more coats of clear coat. it'll look like it's hovering over the paint job.

Cheers,
H

Nope. Never did anything like that before :(

Scarcat, could you post a checklist of what I'd need and anything relevant about the procedure?!

Contact the folks at www.reproductiondecals.com - they might be willing to make you a custom sticker. They were willing to do a Yamaha for me for a reasonable price. They specialize in making decals for restoring bikes.

You can print out your own water slides these days if you have an ink jet printer.

As for the proceedure. it's pretty easy. Here's a link to one for model trains from one of those wacky train guys

Andre at www.reproductiondecals.com is very good. He's also a nice guy from what I hear and based in London Ont.

As a side note Andre's brother Paul is my welder/custom fabricator and runs a shop in Downsview (In Toronto). His shop is called DRS (Drag Racing Specialists) and you can call him at 416-747-6948 is you need something welded, machined or fabricated out of metal. The guy specializes in drag racing and I've learned more from him about custom machining, welding, stretch and bending tolerances, and custom fabrication then anyone I've ever talked to. Tell him Hector sent you and he'll chuckle :)

I just thought of another option. You can have a professional paint the logo for you.

If you're interested in going this direction, and live in Toronto, go to Rob at Just Imagine designs. His website is http://www.wookipaints.com/
He painted my tank, fenders and cafe seat and is by far and large the best in the city. Again, if you go there, tell him Hector sent you and I'm sure he'll chuckle.

That train link was quite helpful. And its got the checklist too. Will get the necessary stuff and give it a try. Hope it comes out well.

Scarcat, I live in Bombay.

DRS! Aren't they the one who created a super tuned drag Enfield? The owner is also has dealership for Royal Enfield.
