Sticky Shifting

I'm having a hell of a time shifting. Something happened and it's near impossible to get out of first into second or neutral. The other day I was out and it just wouldn't go, a few times I reach down and yank it out. I tried to get some grease in it but the nipple might be frozen cause I'm just making a mess. Hopefully I'll have some time to take the cover off tomorrow and inspect it. I'm looking to make sure the shaft that attaches to the foot lever isn't bent, and that the clutch cable is all hooked up right. I have a little play in the clutch, almost a 1/3 or 1/4 of the squeeze feels like nothing. Any advice; what it could be, what else to look for?
Thanks in advance!

So the shift lever shaft is straight, and the rest of the stuff in there I am at a loss. The grease nipple is not frozen, I have two different grease fittings and both don't fit the nipple right. Any idea where to get one that fits?
Some new info: when the shifter actually allows me to pull up on it, it sometimes gets stuck up. It won't change gears and fall back to it's usual position, i have to kick it back down. Does anyone know if this is the clutch plate? Or the clutch shifter rod? I'm not really sure how to inspect all of this. I looked up this parts list image and have no idea how to get to these other parts to inspect them. Any ideas?

ok these parts are inside the irght hand case, and if the little spring (2) is weak problems can occur. the big spring (3)is the return spring, and i have replaced them to get this type of problem fixed and make it return- you can actually compare new and old to see how bad it is. was cheap from honda last year...

checking this is the first step, if these parts work ok then problems are inside :( :( i know about that....dang. good luck
