stock damper mount?

wrenching in the bad oil garage
Hi All, guessing this has been asked before but I'm a newbie and haven't found a definite answer. I am trimming down the frame of a 1973 Honda CL350. I am wondering if there will be a use for what I believe is a mount for a stock steering damper on the bottom front of the neck? Looks bent and I am wanting to cut it off? Thanks, Greg

You sure that's not the steering stop - prevents the forks from banging into your gas tank by mating with tabs on the lower triple tree.

Hi, yes it is a u shaped strap of metal with a short bit of tubing through it mounted on the neck just below the stop.

More precisely mounted just under the steering stop where the neck and down tube join. (see link)

No, horn was mounted on the right side of the frame next to the coil. I have yet to find any clear reference to what this mount I am asking about was for.

Thanks guys. Mike and the crew at DCC also emailed me and recommend cutting it off and fabricating a new mount for a more modern damper. Cheers, Greg

You can chop it of or use it like djelliot to fit hydraulic damper.
I've done either/both at various times
