Stop calling a TCI a CDI !

The T indicates transistor ignition, the C indicates capacitor ignition. Bikes can have a Capacitor Discharge Ignition but most all have a Transistor Controlled Ignition.

Thank you,
Tom

Very true, and when each manufacturer called them something different in their parts list, the confusion grows.
Now some bikes in the 70's did indeed have CDI systems and some of those exact models transitioned to TI systems later in the run.

To most folks they are simply "black boxes" with interchangeable terms.

Not very many EE's on here...

As long as it works and my bike runs, you can call it anything you want :) Its all voodoo black magic to me.

whatever, they all operate on pressurized smoke, you let the smoke out then its time to replace it with one still charged up with smoke ;)

Well, CDI is also thyristor ignition so...
