It's a little early for a build thread. But this will be the next project after the CB360 is done. I'm still trying to figure out what to use for an engine, any suggestions?? I want it to be fast so 2 stroke would be great! What I would really like is a 2 cylinder snowmobile engine... but what to use for a trans since I certainly don't want it to be a CVT... again, any suggestions? I also have a 400ex four wheeler engine laying around looking for a home.

I have these forks and a set of newer R6 forks (black & inverted). I need to make a decision there too... these ones look more traditional, but I think the inverted ones could really set it apart from the rest of the trackers.

Anyway, here are some pics of what I am starting with:

Little is right! I'm guessing it will hold about 3/4 of a gallon; which means it either needs to have an aux tank under the seat or it is just a real close to home bike.

I did some research on the 400ex engine and it only puts out about 29 hp (which is less than half of what I'd like). You can get a turbo kit, which would be dang cool but not for $4k!! And that still doesn't give me the hp I want. So, I'm back to looking for a 2 smoker. Maybe a YZ250, CR250, CR500???

O yeah, forgot to mention that is a Champion frame, the tank is fiberglass, and the rear shocks are Progressives

Very cool! A proper CR motor would be terrific. (GO HONDA!) Id keep the standard forks though. USDs can get pretty heavy. Trackers are supposed to be light and agile, right?
 
A Yamaha Banshee motor sounds just the ticket. My RD400 engine is pretty light and is well fast enough for me.

I'm a bit fan of add lightness, not HP.

XLNT starting point for a tracker. With your frame, you have the choice of a number of different motors - myself, I'd look for an RT360, DT400 or IT465 / 495 motor (love the big 2 stroke singles) - you've already got the Yamaha tuning forks on the tank!
I'd keep the existing forks, too - they look great.
I don't know where you're located, but here in Ontario (Canada), it's getting more and more difficult to register and licence a bike that doesn't have the Federal DOT sticker on it. That fact completely stopped me from taking a complete Knight Framed dirttracker and making an uber street tracker out of it (the guy still has the roller for sale, though, if someone can enlighten me, that would be cool). I've been told that you can still register these things as "homebuilt", but again in Ontario, the insurance for such bikes is said to be "brutal".
Anyway, great start to a great project!

No question - these super cool adjustable trail triple clamps won't fit usd forks!

I was also thinking about the big yami 2 stroke single... that'd be a cool way to go. And it'd be an air cooled motor which would keep things cleaner. Also, I'm leaning toward using the forks/triples that are on there now. I don't have the R6 triples I'd need yet... so I'll probably just keep them around for another project. thanks for the advice! ~stout
