Stupid battery question

Been Around the Block
i just bot a 6Volt bike (1975 Yamaha Fs1-E - see the thread "wiring for spark"), I want to hook up a 6v battery just try starting it. Rather than buy a proper battery ( where to go? How many $$s?) can I just hook up one of those square 6v flashlight batteries?

I know it would be down on cold cranking amps likely but do you think it would be enough to at least get it running??

Lastly I am not hooking up ANY lights or the horn. if I tried to use a 12v would I cook the generator in the motor??

Thanks

You can try a 6v lantern battery, but I have no idea if it can put out enough current to start your motor. at least you couldn't hurt anything that way. If you run 12v into a 6v starter you will probably fry it.

Don't use a lantern battery. Even if it starts it's liekly to explode once the charging system get to pooping out electrons. That's bad....

I thought he was just going to conect it momentarily to the starter. If he hooks it up like a regular battery yes it will explode.
